Tackling Tough Stains in Your Kitchen Sink

November 4, 2025

Even the most beautiful sink can lose its shine over time. Coffee marks, hard water deposits, rust spots, and grime can make your kitchen feel dirty no matter how much you clean. But don’t worry—tough stains don’t mean permanent damage. With the right approach, you can restore your sink’s sparkle without harsh chemicals.

For stainless steel sinks, sprinkle baking soda and scrub gently with a soft sponge or brush following the grain. Avoid steel wool—it scratches easily. Rinse with vinegar for extra shine.

If you have a porcelain or fireclay sink, use a mild bleach solution or hydrogen peroxide paste for stubborn stains. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. For granite composite sinks, stick to gentle dish soap and avoid anything acidic, which can dull the finish.

Regular care makes a difference. Wipe your sink dry after use to prevent water spots and discoloration. Once a week, deep-clean it using baking soda or vinegar to keep buildup away.

At I Hate My Sink, we’ve transformed hundreds of stained sinks back to brilliance. With the right products—and a little patience—you can fall in love with your sink again.
